Energize Yourselves with Khajur Milkshake

Ramadan is almost knocking the door. I am preparing some Khajur and Ramadan dishes for you so that you can use all these easy-to-make food recipes during this holy month. I’ve come up specially with this Khajur Milkshake as Ramzan recipe. It gives more stamina to your body. You can also have Khajur milkshake any time in the year, whenever the dates or khajur are available near your location.

Dates or khajur are the rich source of proteins and vitamins. Khajur comes under the category of fruits. It is mostly eaten raw. During Ramadan, Muslims break their fast with khajur or dates. While residing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, I came across many varieties of dates.

At the Khajur market in Jeddah, the most popular ones are Ajwa, Amber, Sukary, Rutab and Kalmi. I already had all these dates. They are similar (not same though) in taste and sweetness.

Dates have amazing health benefits too. They lower the risk of heart diseases, prevents anaemia. Dates are also helpful in curing abdominal cancer and maintaining blood pressure. I would suggest you to add Khajur in your daily diet.

How to Make Khajur Milkshake

I always keep khajur in my kitchen. Since Ramadan is here, I want to share the Khajur Milkshake Recipe with you. You might feel full after having one glass of the milkshake as it contains milk, khajur and dry fruits. You can also take this healthy khajur milkshake even in suhoor (saheri) also if you are not taking in iftari.

Let’s have a look at this easy recipe’s method and ingredients.

Serving 1; Time taken – 35 minutes (including soaking of Khajur or dates)

Ingredients

  • 7 ripe khajur (dates)
  • 1 glass of warm or cold milk
  • dry fruits of your choice
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Ice cubes (optional)

Method

De-seed the khajurs.

In a bowl, soak the de-seeded khajur in the half-glass of warm milk for half an hour.

Make Khajur milkshake

After half an hour, transfer the soaked khajur along with the milk in a blender. Now add the rest of the milk. Blend it nicely.

Transfer in a serving glass, add whipped cream (optional) and all chopped dry fruits.

Refrigerate it for an hour or two.

You can add ice cubes too after cooling. Enjoy having this cool and nourishing Khajur Milkshake.

Tips: For one glass of Khajur milkshake seven dates are enough. Still, if you want the milkshake to be sweeter then you can add a few more dates. If you don’t have enough time to soak the khajur in the warm milk, blend directly along with the milk but it would take more time.

Adding more to the Summer recipes, here is another drink for the season – Cucumber Coconut Water Drink.

You can call it a Cucumber drink or a Cucumber Mojito too. It’s simple to make and keeps you cool and stomach light. This is a five-minute recipe. You will enjoy making and drinking it 🙂

Coconut Water or Nariyal pani is one of the best and natural drinks that is fat and cholesterol free. It has so many health benefits that you cannot ignore. Coconut Water helps in weight loss, digestion, reduces blood pressure and hydrates the body. Being in Hyderabad, it’s one of the plus points that I can have nariyal pani in abundance. And so here is one of the recipes with it.

On the other hand, Cucumber or kheera (in Hindi) helps in keeping the body hydrated, prevents cancer, is good for skin, bones and heart.

How to Make Cucumber Coconut Water Drink

Here is the four-ingredient recipe for Cucumber Drink. Salt everyone has in their kitchen cupboard, so I never count it in the main ingredients :D, The Cucumber drink is great in taste plus have health benefits too. I had made the drink in two ways. You can make any of them or both.

Time Taken: 5 minutes; Serves 2 people.

Ingredients

  • 2 glass Coconut Water or Nariyal pani
  • 3/4 Small (5-inch) Cucumber peeled and sliced
  • 2-3 pinches of Black Salt
  • 4 Mint leaves, optional
  • 2 tsp Lemon juice
  • 4 Ice Cubes

Method 1

In a juicer, put cucumber slices, nariyal pani or coconut water, mint, salt, lemon juice and ice cubes. Blend to make a juice. We are done! Serve in the glasses. Garnish with lemon slices. Easy recipe, isn’t it?

Have the drink fresh. Do not store it. Adding mint leaves is completely optional.

Method 2

In a bowl, add cucumber slices (it should be thinly sliced) and mint leaves. Crush it with a wooden hand masher for 1 minute. Now, add coconut water, black salt, lemon juice and ice cubes. Mix well. Serve in the glasses. That’s it! Cucumber Drink is ready!

Serve the drink with a spoon. Once you finish the drink, you can have cucumber slices with spoon. Yummm!!

Aam Panna Recipe | How to Make Green Raw Mango Drink

Aam Panna or the green raw mango drink is considered as a health tonic which should be taken at least once in a day during summers.

If you are still having those ready-to-drink aam panna, shun it right now. Raw mangoes are already in town and you can make fresh mango drink out of it ‘with no added preservatives’.

I loved these bowls and have them too in my kitchen. You can buy from here and help me earn a bit from this piece to run my blog.

It’s already 42-43 degrees temperature here in Hyderabad and almost same in north India too. If you have afternoon shift timings, the heat stroke won’t spare you. Oh! I’m not scaring you, although I sounded like 😀 . Aam Panna is the best drink to have in summers. The cooling factor in this health drink keeps you going and fights the summers’ affect on your body.

In case you are still not convinced on why to have Aam ka Panna in Summers, I’m listing down some cool points:

  1. The heat in summer season takes off most of the water and salt from your body through sweating. To cope, you need water. Aam ka Panna helps you in keeping hydrated; it’s rich in anti-oxidants, Vitamin C and iron.

  2. Helps in fighting the indigestion and the diseases related. It helps in keeping the stomach cool.

  3. Aam Panna helps in fighting against diabetes and its effects.

  4. It’s a good tonic to be had if one is suffering from dysentry, tuberculosis and cholera.

It tastes great. So drop all those cold drink cans from your hand if your still having one and step in to make this healthy, tangy and with lots of water cool and refreshing drink.

Just like watermelons, my mum used to make Aam ka panna in Summer season and she would give it to us every day, without fail.

Another benefit of having aam ka panna or the raw mango drink – if you suffer from heat stroke, have aam ka panna at least twice. Don’t throw the mango rind, instead rub it on the palm and soles. That’s a home remedy to fight heat stroke.

How to Make Aam ka Panna

Earlier, Aam ka Panna recipe involved roasting of the raw mangoes over fire or in earthen stove. The panna has much different taste when mangoes are roasted but nowadays it’s something next to impossible. So here is the recipe for aam ka panna with boiled mangoes.

Time Taken: 45 minutes; Makes 3 glasses

Ingredients

  • 1 medium size raw mango
  • 8-9 Sprigs or 30 Mint leaves
  • 1 tsp Zeera or Cumin
  • 1 tsp Saunf or Fennel Seeds
  • 2 1/2 tsp Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Black Salt
  • Cold Water

Method

Take a deep pan, add enough water to sink the mango. Now out the raw green mango in it and cover the pan. Put it on high flame and bring the water to boil. Lower the flame and cook the raw mango for 15 minutes.

Switch of the flame, remove the pan from the stove. Let it sit for 5 minutes and now take out the mango. Wait until it cools down.

Remove the mango skin with the help of your fingers. Take out the pulp with the knife and keep it in a deep bowl. I used fingers.

Mash the pulp with a spoon, slightly whisk to make it a smooth yet coarse paste. Keep this aside.

Take a pan, add zeera and saunf to it and roast it on stove for 20 seconds. Put the roasted zeera and saunf seeds in the blender, add black salt, mint leaves and sugar. Grind it for 30 seconds to a coarse paste. Now add 1 tbsp mango pulp from the boiled mango pulp bowl. Grind it again to make it a smooth paste.

Add this paste to the bowl of raw mango pulp. Mix it with spoon. Add cold water, up to 2 1/2 glasses and stir again.

You can add ice cubes too but in the bowl itself. Stir. Serve the Aam panna in glasses and have it chilled. You can store it in a glass container or jug for a day.

Tips:

  1. You can boil as many mangoes as you want all together and store in refrigerator for 5-6 days to make the Aam panna through this recipe later.
  2. Instead of sugar you can use jaggery; it should not have impurities – pick one from a nearby store.

Watermelon Mint Cooler, Drink for Summer

Watermelon Mint Cooler

Watermelon Mint Cooler Recipe to keep you calm in this scorching heat. This is also known as Watermelon Agua Fresca.

Watermelon has always been my favourite fruit in summer. My mother used to slice it and keep it in refrigerator for at least 2 hours and then we would all eat the chilled slices of watermelon. It was refreshing. Having those chilled watermelon pieces – I would keep a big chunk for the last – in summers during childhood days is still fresh!

I would wait for summers to come so that I can have watermelons. Memories! These days one can easily get this fruit throughout the year. But I miss those days when I used to eagerly wait for a fruit season, be it mangoes or melons. Today’s kids might not understand this! I’m still not too old 😀

When my husband was making this Watermelon Mint Cooler, I was trying to save some pieces to be kept in refrigerator and have it all, and I was successful too; though he was watching me how restless I was in keeping my hands off from watermelons. That’s me! And the next time he would slice the fruit for the watermelon mint juice, he already saved some pieces for me. Sweet, he is!

How to Make Watermelon Mint Cooler Juice or Agua Fresca

Here is how to make the watermelon mint juice recipe. Watermelon Mint Cooler Recipe has the main ingredient as sliced watermelon, mint leaves, cumin powder and salt. Watermelon, cumin and mint – all have a cooling effect on your body. This cool drink prevents you from the heat strokes during summer too.

Well I liked the name Agua Fresca but to keep it simple I’m calling it Watermelon Mint Cooler.

Time taken: 15 minutes, maximum; Serves – 4-5 people

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Watermelon (medium sized)
  • 12-15 Mint leaves
  • 1 tsp rock salt or plain salt
  • 8-10 Ice cubes
  • 1/2 glass Cold water
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp Lemon juice
  • 2 pinches of cumin powder

Method

Slice and cut the watermelon in to small pieces. Try to deseed as much as you can.

Now put the watermelon pieces into the juicer jar; add mint leaves, lemon juice, sugar, salt, 4 ice cubes, cumin powder and blend it till a smooth juice. Now add the rest of the ice cubes and blend again for 40 seconds.

Take a bowl, place a strainer over it and pour the watermelon juice. Strain this juice, so that seeds (if any) would get filtered. Check the consistency of the juice. If it is too thick add water for a juice consistency.

Pour the watermelon mint cooler in the glasses, garnish with mint leaves and serve.
